Join us for a trip to the Trapiche Don Carmen (Trapiche is Spanish for sugar mill) in the mountain village Rancho Quemado where Don Jony and Doña Noemy with their family produce organic sugar cane and process it into juice, honey, sweets and tapa de dulce (jaggery = brown traditional sweetener made from evaporated sugar cane).

We can observe the whole process from the sugar cane plant to the different end products in a traditional craft setting.

But not only can we observe, we are also invited to taste sugar cane juice and different types of sweets.

We can feel Don Yony´s and Noemys passion for the sugar cane craft whose wish is to keep this sugar cane processing culture alive and pass on the knowledge to others.

At the end of the tour you are able to purchase organic “tapas de dulce” and “suger cane honey” directly from the local craftsman and -woman.
